This is the second Tom Cruise action feature where an on-set aircraft accident occurred. While filming Top Gun (1986), an aircraft piloted by stunt pilot Art Scholl spun out of control while filming a flat spin scene in-flight. The stunt plane than crashed into the Pacific Ocean, taking Scholl down with it. To this day, neither Scholl's body or the plane has been recovered.
