Filming finally finished at Cinecitta Studios on March 6, 1963, where production had begun two and a half years earlier. The aftermath of the Battle of Pharsalia, was then filmed in Almeria, Spain with Sir Rex Harrison and Roddy McDowall when it was agreed that the story would be hobbled without it to open this movie. The world premiere was held less than three months later on June 12 in New York City.
