Simon Pegg (Unkar Plutt) once showed his then 3-year-old daughter L'Impero colpisce ancora (1980). When she saw Yoda for the first time, she was instantly fascinated by his presence and after a moment she said "Daddy, he's real!". This was because at the time, she only knew the computer animated version of Yoda and not the original puppet. According to Pegg, his daughter's response moved him to tears. He later told that story to his friend J.J. Abrams, years before he was about to direct this movie. When Abrams met with the executives of Lucasfilm and Disney, he told them Pegg's story, which influenced the aesthetic of this and any subsequent Star Wars movie greatly. Abrams suggested the use of real sets, puppetry and practical effects in order to be closer to style of the original trilogy. One day, when Pegg took a visit to the Pinewood Studios during production, he was recognized by a puppeteer who said "Hey, you're the guy whose daughter saved Star Wars!".
