This movie and Blade Runner (1982) use eyes as a recurring motif. In the 1982 movie, the second shot is an extreme close-up of an eye; this is the first shot of this movie. Also in the 1982 movie, Roy Batty and Leon Kowalski visit Hannibal Chew, the engineer who designed the Nexus 6 Replicant's eyes. In this movie, the Nexus 8 Replicants are identified by their eyes. Dr. Eldon Tyrell wears large glasses and is murdered by Roy by having his skull crushed through his eyes. Niander Wallace is blind, and relies on miniature drones to see.
