Dog Years, the hot dog joint used as a hangout in the "American Pie" films, is based on the restaurant Yesterdog in Grand Rapids, Michigan. It opened in 1976 and as of 2022 is still in business. President Barack Obama dined at Yesterdog during a campaign stop in June 2011.
