It is not clear if the other crew members outrank him, or whether Weylan-Yutani has discriminatory measures against their black employees."Parker does not complain that he's underpaid: he complains that both he and Brett are underpaid. And it doesn't have racial undertones (certainly not any more than milk has racial undertones because it's not black like coffee.) The reason they're not paid the same as the rest of the crew is the same reason why a clerk isn't paid the same as his manager: they're low-rank employees. They do maintenance and repairs, technical work. And although their job is obviously important and requires skill, they're still "underranked" rather than underpaid: Ash is the science officer, Kane is the engineer, Ripley is the warrant officer, Lambert is the navigator, and Dallas is the captain.
