Sridevi had returned to South long back after her debut film Solva Sawan 1979 flopped.While Jeetendra was watching south version of Himmatwala which had Jaya Parda in lead but Rekha who was to play the lead in Hindi version jokingly teased Jeetendra to cast Sridevi.Jeetendra then took it seriously and asked K Raghvendra Rao to cast Sridevi opposite him.
