The production could not get a courthouse to film the pivotal scenes of the film. The crew had gotten the Bronx courthouse until the film and the company had gotten into a personal political fracas with then Bronx Assemblyman Fernando Ferrer, who felt the film was disrespecting the borough and the crew had to relocate. They then had the courthouse in Newark lined up and they agreed to let them shoot there for the sum of 250,000 which was more of a donation for renovations towards the courthouse. Then that was cancelled to due to another judge's interference on the matter. Then they had to consider alternatives such as Pennsylvania's court houses and the lot at the Warner Bros. soundstage. Eventually and finally found a courthouse to suit their needs in Jamaica, Queens where they would film for almost two weeks.
