William Shatner appears in archival footage from Star Trek (1966) in this film. Bill and Ted author Chris Matheson's father, Richard Matheson, is the author of the Star Trek episode Star Trek: The Enemy Within (1966). The original working title of this film was "Bill and Ted Go to Hell". Richard Matheson is also the author of the novel "Hell House" adapted into the film Dopo la vita (1973).
