Stanley Kubrick once considered directing a Lord of the Rings adaptation. Ironically, his death indirectly allowed Sir Peter Jackson to get the cast he wanted. Ian McKellen and Cate Blanchett were going to appear in Minority Report (2002), but Kubrick's death caused director Steven Spielberg to delay that movie and make A.I. - Intelligenza artificiale (2001) first.
