Plans to re-adapt The Silence of the Lambs began to develop during the 2010s. The story was originally going to serve as the plot for the 5th season of the television series Hannibal (2013). Mads Mikkelsen, Laurence Fishburne and Raúl Esparza were slated to reprise their respective roles of Hannibal Lecter, Jack Crawford and Frederick Chilton, with series creator Bryan Fuller hoping to cast Elliot Page as Clarice Starling. However, the makers were never able to acquire the rights to the Silence of the Lambs novel nor any of its original characters, and when the show was canceled after only 3 season, these plans fell through.
