The team encounters an underground preparation chamber for preparing mummies. Archaeologists recently found a vertical shaft running some thirty feet deep near the Sphinx at Giza. At the bottom they found a number of connected rooms carved from the rock that included drainage bays for bodies and other signs of mummy preparation. This was done underground because it was a cooler environment.
