When Wade first meets Samantha (Arty's real-life counterpart), he discovers she has a birthmark on her face. Initially, she hides it under her hair out of embarrassment. But as she and Wade fall in love, her hair slowly moves away from her face. First, it's simply tucked behind her right ear. Later, it's in a low ponytail. In the final scene (after the High Five gain control of the OASIS and Wade and Samantha are happily living together), her hair is up in double buns.
