Suki was originally written as a guest character for season 1, who wasn't meant to come back. However, the character grew in popularity with the fans and she was brought back for a few more episodes in season 2, and eventually became a main character in the second half of season 3, participating in the plan to take down Ozai's airships with Sokka and Toph.
