The original theme was written by Ian Freebairn-Smith and only lasted eleven episodes. It was replaced with the iconic theme by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter. The new theme had two minor re-workings for seasons two and three, then retained for the rest of the series. A one-off re-working of the theme was used for season five, episode three, "Mac's Back".
