Once during the later shooting of the film, director Girish Karnad told Shashi Kapoor that he needs dates for 2 months. 1 whole month for rehearsals with all the artists only and the second month the shooting will be done. They had already gone over budget, Shashi Kapoor put his foot down and demanded the shooting should be completed in 1 month only and no need for rehearsals.
