Many scenes with Everett McGill as Stilgar were cut, including Stilgar objecting to a knife fight between Paul and another Fremen warrior, Stilgar overseeing a Fremen cremation funeral, and Stilgar instructing Paul on worm riding. These scenes were later restored in extended cuts of the movie.
