Playwright John Power once said of this filmed adaptation of his play in an interview where he was asked the question, 'Were you satisfied with the film version of The Last of the Knucklemen (1979)?' Power said: "I thought it was quite an interesting film. No playwright is ever going to be satisfied with a film because he works in the restrictions of the stage and is conscious of the restrictions of the stage. The film maker has to take it outside to expand it because the camera can't remain stationary for long periods of time".
