While Sonic turns Super in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (1992) early if he collects all seven Chaos Emeralds and 50 rings, he quickly goes Super via Master Emerald during "Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles"' final battle. In the movie, the Master Emerald shatters during the final battle, but manages to wield the power of the seven Emeralds inside.
