Calvin Candie is constantly eating candy and sugary delectables, which causes his rotten teeth. That connects four things in the plot: Mr. Candie is rotting from the inside because of his evil nature (according to Quentin Tarantino), Dr. King Schultz is a dentist-turned-bounty-hunter who "gets rid of" the human cavity, who is Calvin Candie, Mr. Calvin's farm is named "Candyland", and sugar was one of the main crops harvested by slaves.
