When Oddball calls his Sergeant pal (and interrupts a crap game), the soldier answering replies it's a division of Engineers---as in Army Corps of Engineers. Oddball's request for 60 feet of bridge is thus not so unusual, although it would be a difficult endeavor. Both the Army Corps of Engineers and the Fighting SeaBees of the Navy (construction brigade) provided the necessary materials and manpower for bridges, roads, airstrips and more to the military as needed...and they still do.
