Towards the end of the Summer 1970 storyline that saw the destruction of Collinwood, it was implied that Gerard Stiles, under the possession of the dead evil warlock, Judah Zachary, was responsible for Roxanne Drew becoming a vampire in 1840 for reasons unknown. However, during the 1840 storyline, Barnabas Collins, released from his chained coffin by Dr. Julia Hoffman before his spirit from 1970 could possess his body, bit Roxanne with the intention of making her his vampire bride, after losing Josette back in 1795. Initially, he prevented himself from turning her once his spirit from 1970 possessed him. However, Angelique, reopened her wounds through witchcraft and allowed her to die after Barnabas refused to resume their marriage. Therefore, Roxanne still became a vampire, though the circumstances were different, thanks to Barnabas and Dr. Hoffman traveling back to 1840.
