Just like the source novel that this film is based on, this film's chief criticism was the accusation that this film is a blatant rip-off of Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977), and of J.R.R. Tolkien's work, and such accusations of plagiarism have plagued Christopher Paolini his entire writing career.
