The mad scientist who creates Bane and (accidentally) Poison Ivy in this film is a version of the super-villain Floronic Man/Jason Woodrue. Woodrue first appeared in The Atom #1 (June-July 1962), created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Gil Kane. He was originally depicted as an extra-dimensional humanoid alien who could control plant life. He was transformed into a plant-human hybrid in a 1976 story, became a recurring foe for the Swamp Thing in 1984, and was retconned into the role of Poison Ivy's former mentor in 1988.
