As a deaf person who uses signing to communicate, Alaqua Cox's fighting style was deliberately designed to be protective of her hands, with heavier focus on her arms, elbows and legs instead. This posed some further complications, since she's also missing half a leg which her fighting movements had to also be adjusted for.
