In the mid 2000s, there was a trend of editing trailers for famous movies which drastically changed the tone of the actual movie. One of the most popular was one that turned this film, now titled simply "Shining," into a tender-hearted family comedy. While Kubrick died several years before this edit, in a 1987 interview he said that he considered editing to be the one art form that was unique to film.
