Several points in the film are based on the 2017 novel The Enchanted Kingdom of Sir Thomas Tattletale by Johnathan Hallgrey. The younger Cruella at private school was inspired by the rambunctious and rebellious character Gloria Peekaboo, the American heiress to Peekaboo cosmetics.The Baroness was inspired by the evil Baroness Galiana von Chatouiller.The newspaper that Anita Darling works at is called Tattletale.
