Batman's cowl, collar and emblem design in this film resemble the designs used in Gotham By Gaslight, a one-off graphic novel from 1989 written by Brian Augustyn with artwork by Mike Mignola, P. Craig Russell, and David Hornung. In that story, set in 1889, Batman searched Gotham for Jack the Ripper, who'd left England for North America.
