When released on DVD, the movie included a new pre-credits opening scene that was not in the theatrical version (also in the Unrated edition). In the scene, which takes place at the whaling station in 1904, a man is being hunted by a Predator, but just as the latter is about to strike him, an Alien intervenes and attacks. Since the scene takes place on the surface, it is implied that during the previous coming-of-age ritual 100 years before, one or more of the Aliens managed to escape the pyramid, but the Predators managed the situation. In fact, the blooded Elder Predator who shows up at the end of the film may have been a survivor of the 1904 ritual, possibly even the Predator from the pre-credits scene.
