The long continous shot of Gollum as he delivers his final monologue about luring Frodo and Sam into a trap was the first Gollum scene delivered to Weta Digital for post-production. Due to the complexity of the 2-minute shot, it was the last one that they finished. It involved Andy Serkis acting out the full scene, after which the camera operator had to reshoot it as a background scene without Serkis, memorizing the camera movements he had previously made. Serkis later had to re-enact the scene on a greenscreen set in the studio, so that Weta could record his performance and incorporate it into the Gollum animation, which of course had to be seamlessly blended into the background scene.
