One of over 700 Paramount productions, filmed between 1929-49, which were sold to MCA/Universal in 1958 for television distribution, and have been owned and controlled by Universal ever since. An immediate favorite among local television viewers, it was first telecast in Omaha 7 November 1958 on KETV (Channel 7), in Chicago Thursday 8 January 1959 on WBBM (Channel 2), in Philadelphia Friday 9 January 1959 on WCAU (Channel 10), in San Francisco Saturday 10 January 1959 on KPIX (Channel 5), in St. Louis Sunday 11 January 1959 on KMOX (Channel 4), in New York City Saturday 31 January 1959 on WCBS (Channel 2), in Asheville 7 April 1959 on WLOS (Channel 13) and in Milwaukee 12 April 1959 on WITI (Channel 6). In Detroit it served to launch the Paramount Film Library 20 September 1959 on WJBK (Channel 2), followed by Grand Rapids 25 September 1959 on WOOD (Channel 8), by Omaha 26 October 1959 on KETV (Channel 7), by Toledo 3 November 1959 on WTOL (Channel 11), by Phoenix 19 November 1959 on KVAR (Channel 12), and by Los Angeles Saturday 2 July 1960 on KNXT (Channel 2). Universal released this one on DVD 25 May 2004, again on 22 March 2011 as one of the features of their Classic War Collection and also gives it an occasional airing on cable TV on Turner Classic Movies.
