The sequence of Bob (Sean Astin) gets the computers working again resembles Ellie rebooting the power in Jurassic Park. Dern and Astin has several parallels in their lives and careers. Both have two actors as parents (John Astin and Patty Duke, Bruce Dern and Diane Ladd). They both started their careers around the same time; The Goonies and Blue Velvet were released within a year of each other. Blue Velvet also featured future Lord of the Rings cast member Brad Dourif. Dennis Nedry in Jurassic Park dresses like the Goonies, and both films were produced by Steven Spielberg. Both actors also have a daughter named Jaya.
