Director Jon Watts was excited to work again with Jon Favreau. Jon Favreau directed Iron Man (2008) and Iron Man 2 (2010), and has made appearances as Happy Hogan in other films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Watts says, "There's nothing better than directing another director. They know exactly what you're going through and they never stop being a director."
