The film was coincidentally released the same year as the 70th anniversary of Cecil B. DeMille's Il più grande spettacolo del mondo (1952), the first film Steven Spielberg ever saw as a child, an event which is dramatized in this film as Sammy's parents take him to see it and he gets dazzled by the train-wreck sequence.
