The show is partially based on the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania Police Department as seen by the black and gold shoulder patches on the police uniform (city of Pittsburgh colors). While there is a Hill District section of Pittsburgh, and a hospital mentioned in the show, Mercy, next to the Hill District, the Trib Newspaper refers to the ChicagoTribune the Chicago city newspaper.
