Debra Lawrence met both her husband and best friend through the show within months of being cast as Pippa Fletcher. She married Dennis Coard, who played her on-screen husband Michael, and became close friends with Jackie Woodburne when they got down to final two when auditioning to replace Vanessa Downing as Pippa. Lawrence later played Liz Conway, the sister of Woodburne's character Susan Kennedy, on rival soap Neighbours (1985).
