Anne Robinson made a memorable appearance in March 2001, in which she attempted to have the Welsh put in, citing that they were "annoying" and she was envious of their constant happiness. Robinson's comments resulted in complaints from Welsh MP's, who accused the show of promoting racism, though this was later dismissed by OFCOM. Paul Merton later revealed that he would often take the guests for lunch prior to the episode to discuss what their choices, but Robinson had been unable to attend the lunch meaning he was unaware of what she was going to say. Following the Robinson episode, Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins attempted to put the town of Leighton Buzzard into Room 101, again resulting in a backlash from the town.
