Up to and including season 12, of the 153 contestants, most listed their hometowns at Chicago or Los Angeles (12 from each), New York (11), New York City (08), Brooklyn (07), Atlanta or Las Vegas (06 from each), Dallas (05), Orlando or Seattle (04 from each) and Rochester (03), totaling 78 (51%) of all participants. Eight competitors came from the United States unincorporated territory of Puerto Rico. New York (32 contestants) and California (23 contestants) were the most represented states, with 36% of all the queens competing.
