When Spartacus is named Champion and speaks to Varro about escape, Varro chides him for not thinking things through. Most notably missing from the list of reasons is the one Mira gives later in the season: if a slave killed his master, then all the slaves were sentenced to death. It's a curious fact that Varro never mentioned to Spartacus despite his life being forfeit should Spartacus have attempted his violent escape. Though Varro himself most likely did not own slaves, it was common knowledge in those times.
