A running gag in the series is that Gus (Dulé Hill) played Bud on The Cosby Show (1984), a character who was actually played by Deon Richmond. Dulé Hill played a character named Preston in She's All That (1999). In the parody movie Not Another Teen Movie (2001), the parallel character satirizing Preston (Malik), was played by Deon Richmond.
