Bringing back Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator for the reboot and for the current timeline was heavily influenced by Star Trek (2009): Spock Prime (Leonard Nimoy) enters an alternate timeline and meets his younger self (Zachary Quinto) and a younger Captain James T. Kirk (Chris Pine).
