After the fourth season aired, the BBC expressed interest in a fifth season. However, Steven Moffat's commitment to Doctor Who (2005) and unavailability of the main actors prevented this. While it is true that actor availability was indeed an issue, Steven Moffat's commitment to Doctor Who (2005) consisted only of writing two scripts; additionally, over a year passed between the end of the fourth season and the beginning of the revived Doctor Who (2005), so Steven Moffat's availability was not a problem and played no part in the lack of any season five.
