In real life, even after having proven he was not guilty of the murder of his wife, Richard Kimble would likely still face prosecution for, among other crimes, robbery and identity document forgery. Even his escape from custody would not be automatically invalidated by his innocence. However, his lawyers would undoubtedly use the fact that Kimble would have died if he had not escaped, as well as the jail time he had already served despite being innocent, as mitigating circumstances.
