For the dinner scene with the Klingons, most of the actors refused to eat. Not because they found Klingon food distasteful, but because they knew that once they had eaten during a take, they would have to do it again for countless others. Nicholas Meyer offered $20 per take to eat. William Shatner did it, then had track down Meyer to have him pay up, though he claims he had to keep Meyer from reneging.
