In each part of the Dark Knight Trilogy, Batman/Bruce Wayne has either a friend (or associate) who becomes a villain or vice versa. In this film, Ra's Al Ghul trains Bruce Wayne, then turns against him. In "Dark Knight" Harvey Dent becomes Two-Face." And in "Dark Knight Rises" Miranda Tate is revealed to be Talia Al Ghul.
