Albert Hall's character makes a snarky comment about it being the 1980's, and Vietnam is now a "good thing" as opposed to when it was being fought. The irony is, Hall's most notable performance was in the 1979 Vietnam war epic Apocalypse Now, which started many other Vietnam war films that, while anti-war in nature, still showed the soldiers as heroes and/or anti-heroes (also note that Tom Berenger starred in Platoon).
