In Season 1, Marshall (Jason Segel) and Lily (Alyson Hannigan) wanted to get married at the "Van Smoot House", and ended up getting married there at the end of Season 2. Later in the Season 6 episode How I met your mother: Natural History (2010), Arthur Hobbs of GNB first introduced Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and Marshall to George Van Smoot, or better known as "The Captain" (Kyle MacLachlan).
