The earliest shows featured cars of all kinds, from Mazdas to Jaguars. The creative team felt strongly about supporting the American economy, so they started to give away only American brand cars. For a while they weren't giving out any General Motors cars because many years ago it was discovered that General Motors used live animals in crash tests (a practice hat has now stopped). This was totally unacceptable to viewers, and certainly to animal rights activist and host Bob Barker, so there were many years of shows in which you wouldn't see a Cadillac or Chevy.
