Budgetary constraints caused the filmmakers to skip over expository scenes. Because of this necessity, you see things like the Disguisey book popping up to surprisingly specific bit of code in the Disguisey Way regarding how parents can only be saved without direct interference from the grandfather. That was an arbitrary plot point the writers put in, because they just needed the grandpa to go away. Most of the $14 million budget went to set design, celebrity cameos and CGI.
