Cast as Dr. Libbie Bowen was acclaimed Swedish actress Lena Olin. "Libbie is lonely," said Olin of her character. "She lives in a country foreign to her. Her alienation is intensified because she is fed all day with other people's depression. She is an intellectual being. And then Mr. Jones [Richard Gere] stirs feelings the intellect can't process. It's very seductive."
